Bella La Spina’s practice focuses on the archives of small towns, most specifically Coffs Harbour (Gumbaynggirr Country) as a site of both personal and familial history.  By undertaking an investigation of this town through analytical archive searching and composing various personal field studies, the artist interrogates the institution of archiving to question what is deemed worthy of collecting and what is erased. La Spina has produced a body of work which functions as a reconceptualised archive looking at the effects of trace and disappearance on evoking memory and narrative.
